Family

In my Family and Consumer Science 101 class we learned on the first day the definition of a family. Our textbook described it as, “the basic unit of which two or more people are sharing emotional, social, physical, and economical resources”. Although that might be the textbook definition, I believe it is sooo much more than that. Your family members are the people that love you, support you, spend the most time with you, and see you at your absolute worst. Family goes with your through thick and thin, and through all the ups and downs. These are the people that will always be there for you no matter what, even if you really mess up, and how awesome is that?! You share a special bond and love with your family members that no one else quite gets other than you guys, and to me I think that’s pretty special!

Family doesn’t necessarily have to be by blood or relation either. It could be your work, school, club organization, ect. family, the thing that’s important is that you all care for one another and have a common bond. In my life, I’m fortunate enough to have two families. I have my biological family and I have my sorority sisters. (As cheesy as that might be.. it’s true!)  My families are my biggest influences and top priorities to me. I consider all of my family members my best friends and truthfully, I have no idea where I would be without them. They are my all and everything and I look up to each and everyone of them in so many ways.

I think a lot of people, especially my age, don’t genuinely appreciate their families, and this makes me grateful for the relationship I have with my own. People so easily overlook their loved ones for different reason and kinda just forget about them. As your family these people want to cheer you on and help you accomplish your goals! So, why is it that some people don’t make more of a point to include their family in on their lives?

Your families are always there to support and help you, so utilize them in the best way possible! Use them as a resource for help and guidance when you need it, or offer your help to someone else who needs it. When we appreciate our families and make sure they are a big part in our lives I think we become better versions of ourselves. They shape you in so many ways so how could you not change?! I can say for sure that being with my brother at the same college has been the greatest thing ever! We didn’t even intenchaly pick the same college on purpose, but man am I glad we did. Without having him here I think I would be a total wreck! Okay, not really but I defiantly would be at least somewhat lost! 😉

Learning to love and appreciate your families is so important and a big changer on how you live and prioritize your life. If ya haven’t done it in a while I suggest ya pick up the phone and call ya mama! 🙂 Call her to just say hi, I do this to my mom all the time even though we live in the same town!! It will make her day I promise!

Family is everything!

Confidence is Key

1c07e5a82dddab524749713d0d6c552a

“Too many days are wasted comparing ourselves to others and wishing to be something we aren’t.” Comparison, it’s an easy thing to do. It’s so easy that we do it mindlessly without even thinking about it. And why is this? It is such a waste of our time and only brings us down when we should only be bringing ourselves up. So why do we do this to ourselves? We so easily compare who we to others and constantly want to change who we are to be more like them. We need to stop this because it does us no good. Instead we should all love and be confident with who we are.

No one is perfect. Not you, not me, not even the girl who has it all. We all have our own strengths and weaknesses, we all have our own “blue print”. I think this is something we all need to be a little more mindful of. It’s so easy to compare our life to someone else but we don’t know what their made up of. So, in the long run this only hurts our own confidence. Instead of comparing ourselves to others we should be focusing on ourselves. We should become more aware of our own strengths and weaknesses. We need to be aware of the things that make up who we are so we can be confident in ourselves. Once we know more about ourself and find the things that make us up we can become more confident in our own abilities. It’s important that we are confident in both our strengths and weaknesses so we can know our limits. For example, If I have a weakness in finding balance and being organized I would not want to take on too many thing, responsibilities, classes, ect. at once. Not only would this make me feel extremely overwhelmed, it would also make me lose confidence in my abilities. Once this happens then I could easily begin the cycle of comparing myself to others and then downward spiral from there.

We need to be proud of the things that make us up, both the good and the “bad”. Once we know these we need to accept them and become confident in them. Once we accept who we are and all that we are made up of we can truly succeed and become the best version of ourselves. It’s so important to be confident and proud of who we are so we can fully love ourselves.

Be confident in yourself. Be confident in your abilities.

Be confident this will be a good day.

The Struggle is Worth it

screen-shot-2017-01-12-at-10-03-07-pmTrust me when I tell you I struggle, I struggle hard sometimes- but then again who doesn’t?! I often hear people say they have their life figured out and they are on a one way path to success. I’ve even had people tell me this about my own life and how they wish they could have it “all together” like me, but in all honesty, I really don’t… It has been a work in process but I have came to accept the fact that that’s okay. I am going to have struggles in life and I am going to have to work through them. In college, especially, I know sooo many people are in the same boat as me, and that’s kinda comforting to know I’m not alone.

With my emotions getting the best of me last week I became aware that struggling is part of the journey and it’s what makes everything worth it. (Thanks for the words of wisdom, Dad :)) This has become my new motto and I have been saying it in my head like clock work. Reminding myself that the struggle is worth it makes me feel more relief and guidance. Knowing this I can let my little perfectionist-self take the back seat burner and make some mistakes along the way. Struggling through difficult situations only makes us tougher and stronger. These situations help build us up and become the best version of ourselves we possibly can. If we were all to give up on tricky situation or when times got rough then we all would be no where in this world. We need to struggle through the difficult things to find our own answers and meanings to life.

With every struggle there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. It could be finally getting a good grade in a class after working your tail feather off, or starting a new job after searching for months to find the right one. Struggling is part of the journey and really makes you appreciate what you have accomplished. Once you are done with the difficult situation you can look back and be proud of yourself for all your hard work and for everything you have accomplished. It takes time and a lot of effort to keep going, I know first had, but trust me, it’s worth it.

Along the way you learn so much about yourself and what you are capable of. If you don’t give up and keep pushing through I think you’d be surprise at just how far you could actually go. We physically aren’t capable of being perfect, so don’t try to be. I know that this is something I have really struggled with over the years becasue I can tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, but I’m getting better at it, I promise.:) We should make mistakes along the way while we are struggling through so we can learn even more. (Kinda scary right?!) I think the one thing that we should never stop doing in our lifetime is learning and learning through are struggles and mistakes.

So, persevere my friend and keep struggling on!

Positively Positive

c1287d1d8b75cb92d7c8d7b997ec922b

Having a positive and happy outlook on life goes along ways in getting you where you want to go, and where you want to be. It helps get you through the good, the bad, and the ugly. Not only that, but it also helps others as well. People find comfort in positive reassurance and affirmation-so when you are upbeat and cheery, it makes them want to be upbeat and cheery too!

A positive mindset is something that does not come easy to all, and that’s okay! In this world there will always be the optimist and the pessimist, but I believe you get to chose which one you want to be- so chose wisely my friend;). It is a constant work in progress and requires dedication to at least try and see the good with anything (even things you think there is no coming back from). I find that when I look on the bright side of things it helps me remember that it’s just a rough bump in the road and it will all be okay. Things always work out in the end, even if you don’t expect them to. I personally believe that with every situation, interaction, occurrence, and problem is a reasons- you might not be able to see it in the moment but it’s there, just keep looking. In the meantime, keep reminding yourself what you have in your life to be happy and thankful for-it helps, I promise!
If you think you have nothing in your life to be happy ,or excited, about think again my friend becasue you do! You are living and breathing right here, right now and I personally think that’s something to be jolly about! There is, and there will be, always something to be happy about. If you find yourself in a hard spot think of all the things you can be grateful for, like your family, pets, friends, education, job, home, and the list can go on and on and on, but you get the point. Believe me when I tell you it can be hard to think of these things when you are upset in the moment, but it’s important to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel that will get you back to the happy side.

I encourage you, if you’re not already, to try and be an optimist (even if you just try for a day!). Search for the good in anything and everything and I ensure you it will be a rewarding experience. Life on the bright side of things is so much more enjoyable and meaningful-and doesn’t that just sound grand?! I guarantee you will feel happier and more ecstatic about your life and all things in it. So go off into the world with happy, positive thoughts and send out good vibes to all!

Have a great and happy day!! Thank you for reading!!

Your Vibe Attracts Your Tribe

I know, I know, you have heard that saying a million and one times… but it is soo true!! I have first hand experienced the positive and the negative of this mantra. I notice when I am around negative, cranky, or tired people I too will start to act in this manner- and that is not okay. But, on the other hand when I am surrounded by people who are positive, uplifting, and inspiring I have better energy, thoughts, and emotions. It is too easy to get caught up with other people and what they think that you forget about who you are and your own individual thoughts. I think that a main reason for this is because people are naturally scared of rejection and want to be liked by their peers. Now-a-days people are way too timid to stand out and be unique that we are all becoming so similar there is a loss of individuality. Knowing this makes me so sad because that means people aren’t expressing who they are and who they want to be. 637605cbd538bf3010002fd738440db3

So, with that said find your tribe and stick with them. I know it will be a challenging task but let people go who you know are bringing you down and not letting you live your life. Trust me, this will only better yourself and positively effect your future! Find people that you actually want to be around and stick with them forever! Not only that, but make sure you are setting out “good vibes” to them as well, this way it will be a two way street and you are uplifting them in return.

There will always be negative and pessimistic people in this world, but I encourage you to just let them pass along. Don’t over think it when a person makes an unreasonable comment to you, or get carried away with negativity. It is your life and make it a positive one! Life is a million times more enjoyable when you chose to live a happy life and be happy.abc1e38f606c0d113da3dde31c7e021f.jpg

Go off into the new year with a fresh new mindset of positivity and optimism! Make this your year and find your “tribe”. Surround yourself with the best people you can find and cherish them forever! If you don’t think you can do it, I believe in you and I know you can! I wish you all only the best for the new year and I hope you have a great day!!

You are 16 going on (20)17

f3167b6c80d364b8d064122da4e4ab48

Fav quote of all time!

Please tell me you know where that quote is from- haha if you don’t it’s from The Sound of Music! Wow, 2016 was an amazing year and I have sooo much to be thankful for! In one year I graduated from High School, moved to college, joined a sorority, and got an executive position within my sorority! It was a crazy fun filled year! I definitely learned a lot about myself and life in general. I am so excited to be starting 2017 and this is going to be a great year, I can just feel it- can’t you?! There is just something about knowing that it’s a new year and it just seems so refreshing and inspiring. For 2017 I want to challenge and push myself in a new and creative ways, as I mentioned in my first post.

I personally always have goals set for myself throughout the year-even thought I do fall short of them sometimes, it’s important that I still try. Some goals that I always have throughout the year are to maintain good grades, find a balance between work, friends, and school, and live a healthy life. Some ways that I maintain these goals are by constantly thinking of them. Think of me as crazy, but I am kinda obsessed with them. I am a very goal orientated person by nature and it would be hard for me not to constantly be thinking of them. I find that writing my goals down helps me hold myself accountable and less likely to forget them. I also have a journal were I write down anything that comes to mind- goals, dreams, thoughts, quotes, ect.. From there I write why I want to accomplish the goal, how I can do it, and how it will benefit me in the future. I find this to be a great way to really in vision how I want my future to be.

I attended a Tony Robbins seminar in the summer of 2015. And, holy cow did I learn a ton while I was there! I was so glad my mama brought me and I think it has been the most rewarding and beneficial thing I have ever done for myself. If the opportunities ever arises, I highly suggest you go! Okay, back on track now.. While I was there I learned that you need to focus on where you want to go, not where you are headed or where others want you to go. When you focus on your own future and how you want it, you are wayyy more likely to end up there. If you are constantly thinking, dreaming, and talking about it you’ll get so excited that will make yourself actually make it happen! If you are heading down a rough patch in the road, that’s okay! Just start to focus on your future and how you can change it to better your life! Become obsessed with your life and future, set no limits and dream big dreams. Don’t let anyone get in your way, set you back, or crush your dreams!

I know I am very much a people pleaser, and I need to scale back on this. I so often but other peoples needs, feelings, and thoughts before my own and sometimes neglect my own. For so long I wanted to create this blog but I was too scared because I cared way too much about what others would think- but now I am letting go of that mindset and doing this for me and don’t mind what others think. And man, does it feel gooood!! Don’t let others dictate your future or your dreams. Be who you are and do not be ashamed of it for one second! You are perfect in every single way and owwn it!

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.”- Henry David Thoreau. This is my favorite quote of all time! I have it as my phone screensaver, hung as a picture in my room, stuck on my microwave, and as a notebook. I think this quote is so true for everyone. If you go in the direction of your dream, you will be living the life you imagined- and that is so awesome!

I wish only the best to you for 2017 and I hope you make this your year! Set goals that push and challenge you, dream big dreams, and be who you are with no shame! So, go off into the new year big, bright, and bold with no fear! You got this and I believe in you no doubt!

Much love,

-K

Hey Y’all

Oh my goodness, I am so over the moon excited to be writing this! Creating a blog has been something thats been in the back of my mind for a very long time now, and I am so excited to finally be doing it!ce821909e4313a7912221bfb765dbd88 One of my goals for 2017 is to become more creative and to push myself in new ways- and I think this blog will do just that! On here I hope to write about life, healthy living, fashion, travel, and more! It would mean so much to me if you sticked around and followed me on this new fun adventure! But, I’m not going to lie, I defiantly have a lot to learn- so bear with me the first few times around 😉 For my first post I thought it would be kinda fun to share with everyone why I chose the name “Petite Serendipity” and what it means to me!

If you even know me the slightest you know that I am not gifted with height-haha! In fact just to put it out there I am only 4’10” and can sometimes still fit into kids clothing (hey, I don’t find this a bad thing as kids clothes are cheaper;))! People often mistake me for a way younger age than I actually am, but by now I have just learned to accept that this will always be a thing for me. The funny thing is I use to get soo riled up when people would make comments about it, but now I just laugh and joke around with it because life is more fun when you just accept what you can’t change and just love it instead. With that said, I am just a very petite person by nature and always will be, leading me to have the word petite in my title, and I just think it’s kinda a cute word don’t you?! Haha.

For the second part of the name I chose serendipity. Serendipity means “the occurrence and development of events that happen in a happy or beneficial way”. I personally believe that all things in life happen for a reason and that we all have the ability to take any situation and turin it into a positive one. I choose to live my life in a happy mindset and try to always think positive thoughts. This leads me to live my life always finding the good in things and always with a positive attitude.

So there ya have it! My first post and a reason to why I chose the title Petite Serendipity. I know this isn’t the most exciting thing ever, but I have to start somewhere-right?! Once again I would just like to say thank you for taking the time to look at this and I am so happy  to have you here! Have a great day and a happy New Year!
